A Powys County Council decision to employ two new taxpayer-funded traffic wardens in the town – barely two years after closing its tourist information centre was branded “plain stupid” this week.

Ray Westmoreland, of Tytanyrywen, Pennal, accused the council’s recently-appointed civil enforcement officers of handing out parking tickets “like confetti” - 188 in one month alone - and said that the town’s tourism economy had suffered as a result. He said: “They’re now paying for two traffic wardens who give out tickets like confetti, yet we can’t afford the tourist information centre - it’s utterly ridiculous.

NOTE

Machynlleth Town Council have contacted Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe offering their support for the CRAP county wide campaign.
