A Letter From the National Assembly for Wales

A letter from Kirsty Williams AM

Today we received a letter from Kirsty Williams AM, our local Assembly Member, enclosing a copy of a letter she had received from County Councillor E M Jones OBE, Chairman of the Board, Powys County Council.

The letter from Cllr Jones was dated 11th May, but was apparently received at Kirsty’s office only on the 20th. (Well the post does take time!)

The letter from Kirsty referred to by Cllr Jones is that she wrote to him after contacting CRAP on 26th April. Extracts from the email she sent us is quoted below.

I will be writing to the County Council's Leader, Cllr. Micheal Jones, to make it clear that my view is that the county council should not enforce the retrictions more tightly in Hay until:-

1) It has implemented the residents' parking scheme that was prepared some years ago and which will require little further work to implement

2) Carried out a thorough review of on-street restrictions as part of 1)3) Conducted a full review of off-street parking availability, with a view to providing more on a permanent basis.

If we can persuade the council to operate in a common-sense way in the meantime, especially during high-pressure periods like the Festival, this would be a good outcome, but not a long-term solution.

Residents need to put pressure on Cllr. Gareth Ratcliffe, as this is a wholly county council responsibility. But I am very keen to do what I can to help.

If you think of other measures I and my colleague Roger Williams MP could suggest that would be very helpful. I would of course be more than happy to meet local residents to discuss the issues at any time.

Yours sincerely

Kirsty Williams

Here’s hoping things will begin to move at last!
