In Praise of Parking Wardens

Now the Hay Festival of Literature has finished, we think a brief thank you to the Civil Enforcement Officers who were responsible for parking enforcement in Hay is called for.

Initial estimates are that this year the festival enjoyed an increase of almost one third in visitor numbers, and whilst that created more business both for the festival and for local traders, it obviously, despite additional car parks raising very useful charity income, meant local parking facilities were put under considerable strain.

We cannot possibly have observed every parking incident that occurred during the ten days of the festival. but initial reactions are that parking was handled sensibly and considerately by the wardens involved. Traders report that wardens made efforts to identify wrong doers before issuing tickets and altogether acted in a civilised and courteous manner.

May that be the pattern for the future. A heartfelt THANK YOU.
