Parking Tickets (Penalty Charge Notices) Issued in Powys since April 1st.

Answer from Powys Parking Manager to Request for Information

Councillor Gareth Ratcliffe requested Kevin Lloyd, (Parking Manager Powys County Council) provide him with information regarding the total number of parking tickets (Penalty Charge Notices) issued by the Council employed Parking Wardens (Civil Enforcement Officers) since the council took over responsibility for Civil Parking Enforcement from Dyfed-Powys Police on April 1st 2011.

This is the verbatim answer he received on 27th June

Dear Councillor Ratcliffe

I refer to your enquiry with regard to the above.

Unfortunately, our software provider's can only forward a total Powys figure of Penalty Charge Notices(PCNs) issued in April, May and part of June 2011. Figures for individual towns will be available later.

In the meantime, i am able to supply the following.

Total PCN's issued in April and May combined was 918

Total issued between 1st June 2011 and 14th June 2011 was 305.

Best regards

Kevin

Using a simple extrapolation of these figures, assuming that all these tickets were levied at the lower £50.00 level, this means that Powys have issued PCNs to a total value of £45,900.00 in the first two months and £61,150.00 since the system began.

Of course, this figure does not account for penalty charge notices paid within 14 days which allow for a 50% discount or any appeals which are successful. On the other hand, some PCNs will have been issued at the higher £70.00 level.

We await the breakdown by town promised by Mr Lloyd.

Is it any wonder CEO’s are known locally as council tax collectors!
